Flavonoid-Rich Diet May Reduce Alzheimer Risk

New evidence indicates that eating your fruits and Veggies and Enjoying a glass of wine can reduce the risk of Alzheimer’s disease and related dementias.

The analysis, published in The American Journal of Clinical Nutrition, Analyzed data from the Framingham Heart Study (FHS), a long-term continuing project in Framingham, Mass.. Dr. Paul Jacques and his group of investigators analyzed dietary habits, such as flavonoid ingestion, of 2,800 participants within the span of 20 decades.

The analysis focused on six types of flavonoids found in Western diets: anthocyanin, flavanones, flavan-3-ol, flavone, flavonol and isoflavone. Researchers created four ingestion amounts according to percentiles: less than or equal to the 15th percentile (low ingestion ), 15th to 30th percentile, 30th to 60th percentile, and higher than the 60th percentile (high intake).

They utilized statistics from five exams that contained food frequency questionnaires, as well as beginning of Alzheimer’s disease and related dementias and intake.

Those with reduced consumption of anthocyanins found in wine, were likely to develop Alzheimer’s disease and dementia in contrast to people who have a high ingestion.
